The land draw for plots in Giraavaru Falhu resumed today after the government revised the land use plan for the area, significantly increasing the number of plots to be allocated.
The land use plan was amended after it was determined that the originally planned 610 plots were insufficient. Under the revised plan, a total of 4,072 plots will now be allocated from Giraavaru Falhu.
As part of the change, the government has decided to reclaim 264.3 hectares of land from Giraavaru Falhu.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has already begun reclaiming the remaining 97.15 hectares of land from the total 167.15 hectares designated for reclamation in the area.
Due to the revised plan, the size of plots allocated to beneficiaries has changed, and new plot numbers have been assigned. The draw began at 9:30 am today.
Breakdown of plots allocated from Giraavaru Falhu
- 2,603 plots of 1,250 square feet
- 1,214 plots of 1,650 square feet
- 254 plots of 2,050 square feet
- 1 plot of 2,450 square feet
The Ministry of Housing said the draw is being conducted by ministry-appointed staff following the changes to the land use plan.
The ministry added that beneficiaries can view the draw through a dedicated online link, as the lottery is being held among eligible land recipients.
Once the draw is completed, the Ministry of Housing said it will release further details regarding land registration and the agreements to be signed with plot recipients.
