The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced the "Eh Gein Aneh Geah" (From One House to the Other) Ramadan campaign this year as well, where households that are looking to discard usable items gift them to those who may want them instead of throwing them away.

HDC held the campaign last year during Ramadan as well.

Maldivians have grown accustomed to buying new furniture and appliances when cleaning their houses in preparation for Ramadan. These include items that are still in usable condition.

As per HDC, houses in Hulhumale' can gift items for the campaign as well. They also said that there is more of an aim on used and usable furniture, electronics and the like.

HDC will make the arrangements to provide such items to those who want them after they have been retrieved from households. The campaign will run from 4th February to 14th February.

Time frame for the issuance of goods:

  • Sunday to Friday: 4:00pm to 6:00pm
  • Saturday: 10:00am to 6:00pm

HDC stated that the purpose of such a campaign is to gift items to each other and provide goods to those in need and encourage people to help.

HDC went on to say that along with that, this campaign is also an effort to solve the issue of waste being left outside flats around Ramadan time and reduce waste that needs to be disposed of by encouraging it to be reused.
