In response to last Friday's fire incident at Hiyaa Tower 5, approximately MVR 300,000 was spent on providing temporary aid to 140 residents of 30 flats, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said.

An NDMA official told Mihaaru News that 38 apartments were affected by the fire. Of these, residents of eight apartments stated that they did not require assistance from the NDMA. Hence, temporary aid was provided to 30 flats, with a total of 140 residents.

The official said that about MVR 300,000 was spent on providing shelter and food over five days.

According to the NDMA, this incident involved the largest temporary housing response since the 2019 Thilafushi warehouse fire.

The Hiyaa Tower 5 fire damaged sewerage pipes in 38 flats, rendered 34 AC outdoor units unusable, and destroyed windows facing the air vents.

HDC is currently working on repairs at the affected flats.
