As President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu prepares to deliver the presidential address tomorrow at the opening of the People's Majlis for this year, the acting chairperson of the opposition MDP, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa (Gapo), stated today that 90 percent of the matters highlighted in last year's presidential address remain underachieved and that the reasons for this must be disclosed.
Speaking at a press conference held by the MDP parliamentary group, Ghafoor noted that 90 percent of the work from the 2025 presidential address remains unfinished, yet the budget approved for that year has been entirely utilized.
"The year even ended with a certain amount of debt. Therefore, where is this money? This is a question the citizens must ask," said Ghafoor, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency.
He stated that while delivering this year's presidential address, the President must explain the reasons why the things he promised to do in last year's address were not realized.
The leader of the MDP parliamentary group and Member of Parliament for Hithadhoo South constituency, Ibrahim Nazil, stated that it is now very clear to the citizens that what is included in the President’s address is not the truth.
Nazil said that tomorrow will once again be a day where empty words are heard. He added that the MDP has a very important role within the Majlis, which is to hold this government accountable. He also stated that it is a duty of the MDP members of parliament to bring the government's actions to light for the citizens.
