Qasim Ibrahim's Special Political Advisor Riyaz Rasheed has said that the Jumhooree Party (JP) supports the government as they work to develop the nation while paying off national debt.

During last night's JP campaign event, Riyaz stated that their support is extended first to their candidates who are running for the Local Council Election, with the second being government candidates.

JP Chairperson Qasim Ibrahim sees President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as the leader who took office with the highest recorded national debt in Maldives, with Riyaz continuing that the current government is working to pay off that national debt.

As per Riyaz, under the work to overcome the debt, around MVR 800 million has been put towards paying the debt as of now. Riyaz also said that there is a debt of USD 1.2 billion to be paid within this year and that a green signal can be seen regarding its payment by the government.

Riyaz said that even though there is great difficulty in moving forward after taking on such a debt after taking office, the current government is working to proceed with the development projects that the public are in need of.

"There will be great difficulty in serving the citizens after taking office with such a large debt to be paid. Even so, Chairperson Qasim is aware of the government's efforts in providing the necessary aid to the citizens even with those difficulties and obstacles."

Riyaz went on to say that President Muizzu's actions are the same as those of previous Presidents Abdulla Yameen and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would have taken if they had been in President Muizzu's position.

Riyaz also said that their support is not in order to secure employment and that there is no benefit to be gained by the party, and that if the citizens are being properly served without pause, JP will stand with the government.

"During a time of great difficulty, the JP's Chairperson wishes to assist the current government in providing services to the citizens one day at a time. That is how we offer our support. We want the development we see today to be seen tomorrow as well," said Riyaz.

And so, Riyaz said the JP will stand with the government for the future of the nation.
