Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has advised seafarers to remain vigilant after debris from a fishing vessel that caught fire near Kurumba Maldives was reported drifting at sea.
The vessel, Fresh from the Sea, was travelling near Kaafu Dhoonidhoo with 15 people on board when it caught fire and later sank.

According to the MNDF, parts of the boat are now floating approximately 0.38 nautical miles northwest of Dhoonidhoo.
The debris is believed to be drifting south of the area where the vessel went down.
“Travellers are advised to pay special attention, especially if navigating the area at night,” the MNDF said in a statement.
The entire vessel was destroyed in the blaze. Police said five people sustained burn injuries, including two Maldivians and three expatriates. All were brought to Male' for treatment.
Police said the fire is believed to have started near the vessel’s power plant before rapidly spreading throughout the boat. A Coast Guard vessel attempted to extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
