The mosque built in Bangladesh in late Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed Ahmed's memory has been officially opened yesterday.
Sheikh Fareed passed away at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia while visiting the country to attend a conference.
The mosque in his memory was built by a private organization 'Khidhmaiy', with which Sheikh Fareed had also worked to raise religious awareness.
The organization laid the foundation for the mosque within less than twenty days of Sheikh Fareed's death.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Sheikh Fareed's son, Abdulla Fareed, thanked the public for their assistance towards building the "Masjid Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed Ahmed".
The organization previously said that the mosque will have the capacity to accommodate 455 persons. They estimated that the project would cost MVR 760,000. They received the targeted amount in donations within just 24 hours of announcing the initiative.
As people continued to donate, the organization decided to build a second mosque in the Maldives.
