After 31 years of operation, the Thalassemia Centre has now begun providing service on Fridays as well.
In a post on X, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said that since the Thalassemia Centre was officially opened in December 1994, the centre has never officially provided service on Fridays.
However, effective last Friday, the centre has now started providing service on Fridays as well, he said.
President Muizzu revealed that even on last Friday, the centre conducted 14 transfusions and accepted blood donation from 5 individuals.
He said that the centre will continue providing service during set hours on Fridays even after Ramadan.
This would provide added convenience to those travelling to Male' from the atolls over the weekend for blood transfusions and donations, he said.
The government has last year relocated the Thalassemia Centre from its old, dilapidated offices to Orange Hiyaa in Hulhumale'.
