A two-day rescue mission has taken place to rescue a cat that was abandoned on M. Raabandhihuraa (Fenboa Finolhu), a small uninhabited island.

The Zoophilist Society of Maldives and the Tofu Foundation began working together on this matter after an American woman had posted the picture of the friendly cat on social media.

The woman, Melissa McDevitt is a tourist who was on safari when she saw the cat on the island, with her post reading that someone seemed to have left the cat. She said that the cat is quite friendly and that it would not leave the people who had found it.

However, she said that the safari did not allow cats aboard the vessel. So she left the cat on the island with some food for it to eat.

"Cash reward to anyone who can bring it to a populated island," reads her Facebook post.

This post was shared on Friday, with the Zoophilist Society of Maldives and the Tofu Foundation carrying out a search on the island the very next day. They initially came up empty handed but could see paw prints in the sand. Those involved in the effort left food for the cat at various points on the island, as per their updates on social media.

They conducted their initial search on Saturday from 5:30am to 10:00am, with them returning to the island yesterday.

Their search yesterday yielded results, with the cat being successfully found. They took the cat to M. Maduvvari at sundown, where they proceeded to break their fast.

The Zoophilist Society of Maldives said that the cat has been handed over to an individual in Maduvvari, with it to be handed over if an interested party is willing to adopt. The cat is to be neutered before that.

The organization has asked for naming suggestions for the cat.

Harming cats and leaving them stranded in uninhabited parts of Maldives is something that has been done in Maldives for the longest time. Even though the incidents have dwindled, such matters come to light from time to time.
