In order for the public to be easily aware of the fish market opening times, the Fuvahmulah City Council has made arrangements whereby a live camera feed at the city's fish market has been set up.
The city council arranged for the "City Cam" to show a live feed of the fish market, with it being made active yesterday. The camera will stream the feed to the city council's website 24 hours a day.
Mayor Ismail Rafeeg told Mihaaru News today that the service was started under the banner of a smart city and as part of the council's efforts in making the lives of citizens easier with the use of technology.
"Usually, when people go to the fish market in the morning, they can only buy fish if the fishermen are able to catch any. The point of the live feed is so that people can check whether the fishermen were able to catch any fish before they leave their house," said the mayor.
The mayor said that the City Cam will be affixed to other public parts of the city, such as the sand spit (thundi) and marshes.
A digital chart of the city, complete with the latest satellite imagery and information about houses and businesses was introduced in January.
The chart was prepared by employees from the Fuvahmulah City Council, with the ability to see a high resolution "satellite view" of the city in its most recent state. High resolution images can be taken for planning and small surveyance purposes. It also shows houses on the island, locations of places and roads.
As per the city council, businesses will experience an ease due to the digital chart, especially for delivery services where they can identify the locations of their customers and provide swifter services.
As a great many tourists travel to Fuvahmulah, they will be able to easily identify various places on the island with the aid of the digital chart, along with making it easier to view the beauty of the island, as was said by the city council. They also said that the map was designed with both English and Dhivehi viewing.
