The Health Ministry has signed an agreement with Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) for the repair and maintainance of ambulances.
The signing ceremony was held at the ministry, with Deputy CEO of MPL Mohamed Mueen and Minister of State for Health Ismail Abdulla signing the agreement.
As per Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim during the Health Ministry's press conference that was held last week, ambulances at certain islands have not seen any upkeep, with them having been damaged beyond repair.
And so, he said that they were looking to solutions to repair the ambulances.
The ministry is currently transporting new ambulances to the aforementioned islands. New ambulances were handed over to an additional 14 islands during last night's ceremony.
The keys to the ambulances were handed over by State Minister Ahmed Gasim.
The Health Ministry stated that they had handed over ambulances to 56 islands in January alone, with more ambulances to be handed over within the year.
While MPL has been assigned to oversee the ambulances, the government awarded MPL the work to import ambulances to Maldives under contractor financing.
