Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced that work is set to recommence on the stalled 400 housing unit project in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi.

The project was initiated in May, 2023. The project was contracted at the time to Donbez Pvt Ltd's joint venture company, 23rd Metallurgical Construction Group Co. Ltd.

However, as the project remained stalled, it has now been handed over to Rainbow Construction.

HDC said that materials needed for the project have now been taken to the island, and efforts are ongoing to start practical work on the project.

The 400 housing unit project in Kulhudhuffushi includes three room apartments in five 11-storey towers.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to construct 2000 housing units on the island to address housing issues.

In his visit to the island in August last year, the project was handed over to HDC, including that of the stalled 400 units.

Of the 2000 housing units, 1,300 are to be built on plots determined in the Kulhudhuffushi land use plan. The remaining 700 will be on private land, according to the government.
