A total of five charges have been submitted to the Criminal Court against Hussain Sunny Umar, a senior official at "The Travel Guys Private Limited," who was arrested in a case involving the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.

The Prosecutor General’s Office stated that Sunny has been charged with three counts of intentionally touching a child’s body with sexual intent, one count of obstructing justice, and one count of providing false information to an official agency.

According to the PG, the first charge was brought because he allegedly sexually abused a male child on various occasions from before the child turned seven until August 2025, intentionally touching the child’s body with sexual intent.

The second charge was brought alleging that he intentionally touched a female child with sexual intent when she was 10 or 11 years old. The third charge was also brought on allegations of intentionally touching a female child with sexual intent when she was 9 or 10 years old, the PGO said in a statement.

The penalty for the crime of intentionally touching a child’s body with sexual intent is imprisonment for a term between 10 and 14 years.

The charge of obstructing justice was brought because the Criminal Court had ordered Sunny Umar to hand over his phone to the police, following suspicions that the phone contained evidence related to the case, but he failed to do so, claiming the phone was lost, the Prosecutor General’s Office said. The basic penalty for this crime is imprisonment for a term of one year, seven months, and six days.

The charge of providing false information to an official agency was brought because he provided false information to the police regarding the SIM number and the type of SIM used in the phone he was believed to be using. The basic penalty for this crime is imprisonment for a term of four months and 24 days.

The PG Office stated that if the charges in this case are proven, they will seek the maximum penalty prescribed by law. In that event, Sunny could be sentenced to at least 44 years in prison, the office said.

Sunny Umar, who also played a leading role in a PR firm running a travel agency and a travel media outlet under the "Halal Tourism" brand, is currently in custody pending the conclusion of his trial.
