Prime Fertilizer has stated that in the major fire incident that occurred tonight at their main warehouse adjacent to the former Drug Court, 80 percent of the company's goods were destroyed, and the facility was not insured.
An official from Prime Fertilizer, a company that imports and sells plant nutrients and various types of chemicals in the Maldives, told "Mihaaru News" that 80 percent of the company's goods are stored in that warehouse.
While the warehouse, constructed of tin and metal, has been completely burnt to ashes, the official stated that the place was not insured. Additionally, the official noted that the exact amount of damage caused by the incident will become clear tomorrow.
The cause of the fire at the site is not yet clear.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stated that the fire has now been controlled, and 32 people from 4 houses in the area where the warehouse is located have been temporarily moved to the evacuation center currently established at the Social Centre.
As smoke remains thick throughout the entire area, and with the presence of smoke and chemical effects in the vicinity, the HPA urges people not to go outside unless wearing a mask.
