The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has stated that sewage is leaking from the flats they have built in Hulhumale' due to waste such as concrete dust and nappies being thrown into the junctions and subsequent clogging.

The issue of sewage leaking from the junctions of Towers 11, 12, 15 and 16 had also come to light in February. While that issue had been solved, a video that has been recently circulating on social media shows water and sewage having leaked out from a junction at a flat.

The sewage water has seeped onto the road as well.

When the FDC was questioned on the matter, Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel told Mihaaru News that they had solved the issue three times over the last four weeks.

Hamdhan stated that the problem keeps reoccurring due to pads, nappies and concrete dust blocking the junction.

According to Hamdhan, 28 nappies had been retrieved from the junction the last time it was cleaned. He also said that the polyurethane foam (PU foam) that was used to cover the AC provisions when the flats were handed over had been taken off by its residents and flushed down their toilets instead of throwing them away. He stated that it was due to this that the junctions kept getting clogged.

It has not been six months since people have started living in the 4,000 flats that were built by two Indian companies.

The issue of Fahi Flats residents throwing garbage into the tower when they were in the process of moving in has also grown.
