MVR 6,000 has been given to each person among the poor and needy as Zakat al-Fitr in the Maldives.
The Zakat House stated today that more than MVR 14 million has been received as Zakat al-Fitr from across the Maldives so far. Out of that, MVR 13,896,000 has been distributed to the poor and needy.
This marks the highest amount received per capita in the Maldives to date through the equitable distribution of Zakat al-Fitr.
Additionally, 62 poor and orphaned children were among those who received Zakat.
This year, Zakat al-Fitr was collected using seven online platforms to arrange for Zakat to be paid easily through digital means.
Furthermore, Zakat House introduced a special online portal to deposit Zakat funds collected in cash by island councils, specifically for those who find it difficult to pay Zakat online.
In the Malé area, Zakat was also accepted via cash and cash cards at the Islamic Center hall. Additionally, Zakat was accepted in the form of grain, and the collection and distribution were carried out.
Zakat House said that by carrying out the work through a digital system, the money received as Zakat was monitored daily. They noted that this paved the way for the equitable distribution of funds to those registered in the registry of the poor and needy living across various parts of the Maldives.
