The captain of a speedboat travelling between Male' and Thaa atoll was injured after the vessel collided with a Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) tugboat this morning.
The accident occurred at around 10:39 am when the speedboat "Mahuma Express" struck the tugboat near the Male' Customs area.
There were four crew members on board, including the captain.
He sustained injuries and is being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). His injuries are not believed to be serious, although further details were not disclosed.
The speedboat had reportedly travelled from Thaa atoll to Male' and was heading to refuel after disembarking passengers when the collision occurred. The speedboat had collided with a tugboat in the Male' Customs area.
The impact caused significant damage to the vessel, with parts of the seating dislodged and the section that struck the tugboat heavily damaged.
