Man with severed arm in billionaire boat crash sent to India

Police stated today that an Indian national whose arm was severed in the luxury speedboat accident involving Indian billionaire and Chairman of Raymond Group, Gautam Singhania, near V. Felidhoo last Thursday night, has been sent to India today for treatment.

In a statement released regarding the investigation of the incident, police said that there were seven people on board the vessel when it crashed approximately two nautical miles southwest of V. Keyodhoo. These included five Indian men, one British woman, and one Russian woman.

The vessel, which can travel at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, crashed, causing five people to be thrown into the sea. Among them, two Indian nationals are still missing, and search efforts are ongoing.

Police said all those on board sustained various degrees of injuries and were initially taken to the V. Atoll Hospital for treatment.

Among them, a Russian woman and an Indian man are currently receiving treatment at Tree Top Hospital.

Police stated that while an Indian man who sustained serious injuries and had his arm severed in the accident departed for that country for further treatment today, an Indian man and a British woman who were on the vessel went to India for treatment yesterday.

Billionaire Gautam, 60, was also injured in this accident and went to India yesterday. Among the two people missing from the accident involving the speedboat carried on Gautam’s luxury yacht, MY Ashena, is Hari Singh, who is famous in Indian motorsports.

It is reported that Gautam, who frequently visits the Maldives for holidays, and his friends met with the accident while traveling at high speed. However, the police have not made a specific statement regarding this.

In the statement, police said the incident is being investigated.

MNDF said that the MNDF Male’ Area Command, Coast Guard Second Squadron, is still working to find the two missing persons. They stated that as soon as the report of this incident was received by the MNDF Coast Guard around 12:40 AM last night, efforts to find the people using sea and air routes, as well as divers, began.

"...So far, an area of 3,450 square nautical miles has been searched by sea, while an area of 7,000 square meters has been searched by diving underwater," MNDF said in a post on social media.
