As the deadline to apply for the position of Commissioner of Police expired today without any officer submitting an application, an additional opportunity has been granted until Thursday, 26th March.

The announcement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on the 5th of March opened applications for the post of Commissioner of Police to officers currently holding ranks from Assistant Commissioner of Police and above.

However, when the deadline expired at 2:00 PM today, no individual had applied.

Consequently, according to the announcement made by the Home Ministry today, the opportunity has been extended until 1:00 PM next Thursday.

The post of Commissioner of Police became vacant following the sudden retirement of Ismail Naveen, who held the position. Currently, Deputy Commissioner Farhad Fikry is temporarily in charge of the responsibilities of the post.

In a situation where the Commissioner's post becomes vacant, an individual serving as Deputy CP must be appointed temporarily. Currently, Farhad is the only person in that position.

This is the second time a Commissioner of Police has retired during this administration. Ali Shujau, who previously held the post, has also retired.
