The Department of Public Examinations (DPE) has provided an additional opportunity for students wishing to take the A-Level exams privately in May/June.

The DPE had previously opened applications and fee collection for candidates wishing to participate in the exam in late February. At that time, the opportunity was granted until March 12th.

However, after that deadline had passed, the DPE announced today that it has decided to give an additional opportunity for candidates wishing to participate privately in the A-Level examination from today until 12:00 midnight on Sunday, March 29th.

In addition to the fee charged per unit for every subject of the A-Level exam, an administrative fee of MVR 3,000 is collected from every candidate.

Fees are accepted through the Bandeyri Portal. The procedure form on how to make payments is attached with the Google Form.

Details of the prices to be paid per unit in addition to the administrative fee:

  • Accounting One unit: MVR 2080, Two units: MVR 4160
  • Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics One unit: MVR 830 Two units: MVR 1660 Three units: MVR 2490 Four units: MVR 3320 Five units: MVR 4150 Six units: MVR 4980
  • Economics, Business, History, Geography, English Literature, and English Language One unit: MVR 1160 Two units: MVR 2320 Three units: MVR 3480 Four units: MVR 4640

This is the first time the DPE has opened the opportunity to take A-Levels privately in May/June within the Maldives. Following the changes brought six years ago in 2020, most students wishing to participate in the May/June A-Level exam privately previously took the exam by traveling to Sri Lanka.

This change was brought after a student petition was submitted to the Ministry of Education regarding the difficulties students face in obtaining scholarships due to the loss of opportunities to retake exams for those who receive low results in A-Levels.

The petition stated that the cost of traveling to Sri Lanka is high and that not every student can afford such an expense. However, there is criticism because a large amount is being charged as an administrative fee even when the exam is held in the Maldives.
