Gaafu Dhaalu Fiyori, Moosal Mueen, a former producer of children’s shows on Television Maldives (TVM), has been arrested on multiple charges, including grooming and sexually assaulting a child, possession of child pornography, and sexual abuse of minors.
The 37-year-old was taken into custody on 26 February after allegedly attempting to groom a child invited to one of his shows. Authorities said the case surfaced four months ago, prompting his dismissal from TVM.
Police allege that Mueen engaged in inappropriate communications with several minors and stored child pornography on electronic devices. He is also accused of committing sexual acts with underage boys.
Mueen appeared in court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody for 15 days.
Police said that all cases involving the possession or dissemination of child-related pornography, as well as other offences against children, will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
