Concerns were raised across social media today about a laundromat being operated at the Vinares Flats in Hulhumale'.

An account by the name of '@HousingMaldives'' posted a video on X today showing an industrial standard laundromat being run out of Vinares Flats' 8A-206 in Hulhumale' Phase 2.

As seen in the video, the laundromat is equipped with industrial washing machines, driers, and equipment for ironing and folding.

"What's most concerning is they are using LPG gas powered industrial machines, which is an extreme fire hazard," the post accompanying the video reads.

Conducting such businesses in a residential building is illegal. In Hulhumale', permits for operating such businesses are only issued from the island's eastern and southern areas.

The video also shows a large amount of LPG gas cylinders used to operate the machines. The laundromat uses the general-use elevators meant for residents of the towers to transport the clothes both to and from their premises.

HDC is yet to comment on the matter.
