Students who are studying in Maldives under the High Achievers Scholarship will now be getting an allowance of MVR 6,000 in addition to the stipend, the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has announced.
The ministry brought changes to the guidelines in the Presidential Scholarship and the High Achievers Scholarship and publicized said changes last night.
Students who are pursuing their education under a government scholarship and a student loan are issued a set monthly sum. This is to cover things such as their meals and tuition fees.
As per the guideline that was publicized by the ministry, it reads that the students studying under the scholarship will receive a monthly allowance of MVR 6,000, in addition to the stipend.
The funds will be set up within 10 days of the students beginning their education, with the funds being given monthly until the last 10 days of their education, as is in the guideline.
Stipend will be issued for a maximum of three months in the interval between students moving from their first country of study to the next.
The other change that was brought to the guideline is the eligibility criteria for the scholarship.
Previously, students would have to get an A grade in five subjects to be eligible for the High Achievers Scholarship. However, it has since been changed. Students are now required to get an A grade in three subjects and an A Star in both Dhivehi and Islam.
The High Achievers Scholarship is now being offered to full time students. The scholarship is offered for a Bachelor's Degree, and Dentistry and Medicine, along with professional license programs alongside Bachelor's Degree.
