The Ministry of Higher Education has decided that starting from next year, the President's Scholarship will only be awarded for fields included in the "Training Needs Requirement" list. The Ministry publicized some changes to the President's Scholarship criteria last night.

Under the criteria publicized two years ago in 2024, students receiving the President's Scholarship had the opportunity to study in any field they desired.

However, the criteria publicized by the Higher Education Ministry last night states that from next year onwards, the President's Scholarship opportunity will only be given for fields included in the "Training Needs Requirement" list published by the Ministry at that time.

Nevertheless, the criteria also stated that students who completed Grade 12 last year and achieved the President's Scholarship will be given the opportunity to study in any field they wish to pursue.

The President's Scholarship is awarded to students who obtain an A* in five subjects, including Islam and Dhivehi, in the Higher Secondary examination, and a grade higher than a C in English at O-Level or above.

Students studying under this scholarship must serve the government for a period between four to seven years. If they do not serve, the expenses incurred by the government for the scholarship must be repaid according to a determined method.
