The sentencing in the case where the state has charged an individual with the murder of a foreigner who went missing while working on a boat has been postponed.

Litton, a Bangladeshi national, went missing after departing from Villimalé on a boat in December 2022, with his whereabouts remaining unknown since. The state is charging Mohamed Nizam, Manaaru, GDh. Thinadhoo, who traveled with him on that boat, for his murder.

Although the Criminal Court had scheduled the verdict for today after concluding hearings, the court stated that the sentencing has been postponed to another date as more time is required for further deliberation.

This is the first time in the Maldives that a person has been charged with murder in a case involving a missing person.

According to the police, Litton was murdered by being thrown into the sea. The police alleged that this was done for financial gain.
