Family Development Minister Dr Aishath Shiham said the opening of NSPA and Aasandha offices in Addu on Thursday would ease the need for residents to travel to Malé for services.

At the ceremony held today to open the NSPA and Aasandha office in Addu Hithadhoo, Minister Shiham said that this is a facility opened under the efforts of this government, under the guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, to provide services as closely as possible to the citizens within a decentralized system.

“With the opening of this office, residents of Addu will be spared many trips to Malé, making it easier to complete administrative matters closer to home,” the minister said.

She said that the government's policies are being shaped to provide services to the citizens within a decentralized system by dispersing services that were previously centralized only in Malé to the islands, and providing services as closely as possible to the people.

The Minister stated that the office opened in Addu will pave the way for a permanent solution to the difficulties faced in seeking social protection assistance and obtaining Aasandha and NSPA services for medical matters.

Minister Shiham said the services provided by the office would be expanded to cover the southern atolls, including Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu and Fuvahmulah.

As a result, she said that the wait time spent while submitting documents to practically obtain services provided by NSPA and Aasandha and waiting for a response in those matters will be reduced.

Minister Shiham said the move would ease the burden on residents, saving both time and expense while reducing the hardships faced by those living in the region.
