Amendments were made to the Aasandha regulations today, specifying the circumstances under which an ambulance can be obtained under the scheme.
The third amendment to the "Husnuvaa Aasandha" Scheme Administration Regulation, published in the Government Gazette, outlines several conditions where ambulance services will be provided through Aasandha, as announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a press conference held Monday.
Those conditions are:
- People being taken to the hospital in emergencies or urgent situations.
- Transporting the deceased.
- Circumstances where bedridden individuals are brought to receive outpatient services.
- Cases where wheelchair-bound individuals and people with various types of disabilities are taken to receive outpatient services. This includes those with physical disabilities, psychological disabilities, and conditions such as Autism and Down Syndrome, who will be provided an ambulance through Aasandha to attend outpatient services.
- Situations where people receiving treatment at a health center need to be moved to another center for treatment.
- In cases of evacuation or when a patient is referred abroad, an ambulance will be arranged through Aasandha to take them to the airport or the jetty.
- Circumstances where individuals suffering from Thalassemia are taken for outpatient services.
It has been decided that this amendment to the regulation will be implemented starting tomorrow.
President Muizzu had also noted that concerns were being received from the public regarding the lack of ambulance services under Aasandha, and that requests were being made to arrange such a system.
The President stated that with this change, many eases will be achieved for the public.
President Muizzu said the decision followed extensive consultations, including discussions on budgetary, operational and technical matters.
