EC requests information of MDP candidates

Election Commission has requested Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to submit information of the candidates running in their presidential primary election.

MDP has been preparing for their primary due to be held on May 30.

The Election Commission sent a letter to MDP asking them to submit information of the candidates and the election, three days ahead of election.

The letter also stated that primary must be held before July 1.

So far former President Mohamed Nasheed is the only candidate in the MDP primary.

However, the EC regulations state that a convict cannot run in the presidential primary.
