Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has passed the association's new constitution today with unanimous votes in favour from all members who attended the congress.

All clubs voted in favour of the new FAM constitution in the congress held at Meeruma Hotel today.

21 out of the 23 clubs with voting rights attended the congress. The two clubs which did not attend are Eagles and United Victory.

With two representatives from each First Division club, 23 representatives were in attendance.

All the articles of the Constitution were passed through a single vote.

One of the most major changes brought is the cancellation of zones, and increasing the amount of clubs in the two higher divisions.

Previously, the constitution said that FAM member clubs are 8 First Division clubs and 10 Second Division clubs.

As per Article 13 of the new statutes, there will be 10 clubs from the First Division and 13 clubs from the Second Division.

The previous constitution had nine zones amongst FAM members. FAM granted this opportunity to only one Third Division club, stating it was from zones. In today's congress as well, this opportunity was granted to CBL.

However, in next month's congress, CBL will not receive this opportunity. From now on, First and Second Division clubs will be represented in the congress.

Endorsements from a minimum of five clubs will need to be submitted alongside candidacy forms for elections. The previous constitution said that three of these must be from First Division clubs. However, the constitution passed today state that a minimum of two out of the five endorsements must be from First Division clubs.
