Former national team forward Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) has been elected president of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).

Thoriq was the sole candidate in the election held under the supervision of FIFA’s Normalization Committee. At the FAM electoral congress held today at Meeruma Hotel, members agreed to conduct a show-of-hands vote, given the lack of contest.

All 32 congress members present voted unanimously for Thoriq’s executive committee, which will serve a four-year term.

Thoriq previously served briefly as FAM president in 2016. However, his tenure ended within four months after five executive members resigned simultaneously, resulting in his removal.

FAM has spent the past year under a FIFA-imposed normalization process. During this period, the association’s constitution was amended to expand the executive committee to 10 members, including three vice-presidents and two female representatives.

Thoriq’s vice-presidents are Ali Ibrahim (Kappi), Mujuthaba Jaleel (Mujay), and Maziya CEO Hussain Shafiu (Kokkee).

The executive committee also includes former national goalkeeper Imran Mohamed, ex-national player Mohamed Umar, TC Sports chairman Ahmed Abbas, BC Sports’ Ali Rizwan, and Odi Sports’ Abdulla Nasih. The female members are Hawwa Nasra Saeed and Hawwa Rashida.
