Victory forward Mohamed Umair has announced his retirement from football after being appointed to the executive committee of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
Umair, 37, was under contract with Victory SC when his name was submitted to the FAM executive committee led by newly elected president Ahmed Thoriq (Tom).
A key figure in Victory’s recent promotion to the first division, Umair played a vital role in helping the club reach the final of the second division tournament. He had also been included in Victory’s squad for the upcoming first division season.
“Today I am announcing my decision to step back from football as I am taking up my responsibilities as a member of the FAM executive committee," Umair said, announcing his retirement via a social media post.
Having started his career as a right-back, Umair also played as a midfielder and forward during his career.
“This is a new beginning to serve football in a new way,” Umair said.
