The Diamond Jubilee Committee (DJC) announced in a press conference last night that a football personality from each island will be recognized.

Renowned coach and DJC Chairperson Ali Suzain said that the nomination of said personalities will be left up to the relevant island councils and clubs.

The criteria will be decided in the near future, said Suzain.

"We will find a football personality for each of the inhabited islands. This will be done in collaboration with the respective island councils and their club associations," Suzain went on to say.

"We will support this process in any way we can. We will draw up a criteria as well."

Suzain has also stated that players, referees and various other individuals in the field can be chosen as a personality.

"As an example, an island has an exceptional player, football player or football commentator. We can look at all these fields when deciding a football personality," said Suzain.

"An island may have garnered a good reputation due to a player's commitment and the players themselves, with a referee maybe having brought something even bigger than that. It can also be a football commentator or a football journalist. We will look at what they have done and the reputation an island would have gotten through their efforts. We at the committee will see if they fit our criteria."

As per Suzain, they will come up with 75 things that they can do in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee.

DJC Vice President and New Radiant Chairman Ahmed Mubeen has stated that the islands that have had the most important impacts in the 75 years of Maldivian football will also be recognized.

"Kulhudhuffushi had a large impact on Maldivian football, wouldn't you say so? Huraa. Mahibadhoo. Other islands such as Eydhafushi and Thinadhoo. All these islands will be granted this recognition. There is a certain pride that is evoked when these islands are talked about. They will be included in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations," said Mubeen.

He also stated that they will take into account a percentage of votes from the respective islands.
