Super United Sports (SUS) has officially informed the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) of its decision to withdraw from the Dhivehi Premier League (DPL), citing unexpected financial difficulties.
The decision, reportedly made in coordination with New Radiant Sports Club, opens up a spot in the first division. New Radiant, which had the lowest goal tally among the teams in the second division semi-finals, is now expected to fill the vacancy.
According to a resolution obtained by Mihaaru News, SUS stated that it is stepping away from both the DPL and first division opportunities due to ongoing financial challenges and the club’s inability to build a competitive squad.
"Super United Sports regrets to announce that it is withdrawing from the DPL due to unforeseen financial difficulties and challenges in assembling a competitive team," the resolution reads. "We understand the importance of maintaining both financial stability and a strong squad to compete at the top level."
In a letter submitted to FAM, SUS confirmed its intention to return to competitive football through the second division next season.
“We will be ready to compete in the 2025–2026 Second Division in order to stabilize our finances, settle existing debts, and rebuild the team,” the letter states. “We also seek FAM’s guidance on the re-entry process and related formalities, and we look forward to rejoining the league structure in a sustainable way.”
