Maziya CEO and ExCo Vice President Hussain Shafiu (Kokky) has voted in favor of giving Super United Sports' (SUS) First Division spot to New Radiant.

The decision to give New Radiant the spot passed during yesterday's ExCo meeting.

When Mihaaru News wanted to make the details of the voting process clear, FAM's new Secretary General Ahmed Zareer stated that publicizing the ExCo voting process is not something they can do.

However, Mihaaru News has come to know that Shafiu has voted for New Radiant to take the vacant spot and is backing his own decision.

FAM's other two Vice Presidents are New Radiant Vice President and North Henveiru constituency Mohamed Ibrahim (Kappi) and Mujthaba Jaleel (Mujey). Kappi is the FAM's Senior Vice President.

Mihaaru News has also confirmed that the two aforementioned VP's were at the ExCo meeting.

Maziya and New Radiant are known to have a rivalry on and off the pitch. As these past few years have seen New Radiant become stronger with Maziya being the team that has been matching and competing against them.

Maziya supported the suspension of New Radiant during FAM's previous leadership but came to support the empowerment of the ExCo to absolve New Radiant's suspension a year later. Maziya also voted to give New Radiant FAM membership during June's congress.

The spot that has been vacated by SUS due to financial issues sees FAM looking at the team that performed the best at the Second Division semi-finals.

Finalist teams Odi and Victory qualified for the First Division. Tent Sports and New Radiant lost against the aforementioned teams, with New Radiant having the better performance out of the two.

Tent Sports and New Radiant were in the same group in the Second Division tournament, with New Radiant securing first place in the group. Tent Sports secured their quarter final spot by placing second in the group.

Tent Sports scored 20 goals in total from the group stages until the semi-finals, with them conceding 11 goals. New Radiant scored 18 goals while only conceding four goals.

New Radiant has a goal advantage of 14, with Tent Sports having a 9 goal advantage, showing that New Radiant has the better results. Even when comparing them head to head, New Radiant has a 3-1 lead over Tent Sports in the group stage. SUS has been fined MVR 200,000 for intentionally dropping out from the league, with them being relegated to the Third Division via ExCo ruling, with the team supposed to be relegated to the Second Division.

Yesterday’s exco meeting then passed a request for government assistance to cover the costs of the Palestinian Under-17 national team’s training camp in Maldives. ExCo also passed a motion to acquire sponsors for the two upcoming international friendly games between the Palestinian Under-17 team and Maldives' Under-17 team.
