Following the Maldives national football team's 3–0 victory against Sri Lanka yesterday, President Mohamed Muizzu personally called head coach Mohamed Shiyaz (Mohan) to offer his congratulations and encouragement.
During the phone call, President Muizzu praised the team’s performance and urged both the coach and the players to continue working hard for success in their upcoming matches.
According to a statement from the President’s Office, the President also encouraged the team to play with national pride and aim to bring honor to Maldivian football.
Coach Mohan described the call as a motivating moment for the entire team. “It was an added pleasure and encouragement for the team to be welcomed by President Muizzu,” he said. Mohan also shared the team's strong desire to win the upcoming match and make the country proud.
In the first of two matches in the South Asian Super Cup, Maldives defeated Sri Lanka 3–0, with goals from Naiz Hassan (Dhaadhu), Ibrahim Mahdi Hussain (Feydhu Ibbe), and Ali Fasir (Sentey).
The second match between Maldives and Sri Lanka is scheduled for Tuesday at the Racecourse Stadium in Colombo.
