Health insurance introduced for national athletes

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that effective today, health insurance will be provided for players and officials of national sports teams. 

In a social media post, President Muizzu stated that health insurance is now arranged for national team players and officials of 18 sports amongst national associations. 

The health insurance would include arrangements to provide ease in seeking treatment for injuries sustained while playing in local and international tournaments, the President said. 

In March last year, President Muizzu decided to harmonize pay of national team players and officials, and raised it to MVR 7,000.
