New Radiant has advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament after coming from behind to defeat Club Eagles 2-1.
In the 13th minute of the match played this afternoon, New Radiant took the lead through an own goal by Eagles' Marvin Labby while he was attempting to block an attack from Guilherme de Silva.
However, in the third minute of added time in this half, Hisham Saleem (Kokay) equalized for Eagles with a header from a corner taken by Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain (Feydhoo Ibbe).
New Radiant regained the lead in the 57th minute when De Silva controlled a ball provided by Ali Ashfaq (Dhagandey) and sent it into the net.
New Radiant is in Group 2 of the President’s Cup along with Eagles and Odi Sports Club. In their first match, New drew 1-1 with Odi Sports Club. With today’s victory, the team has secured its place in the semi-finals with four points from two matches.
The last time New Radiant played in the President’s Cup was in 2017. That was the last year the tournament was held before New was suspended following the 2018 season. New Radiant was also the champion that year.
In the final match of this group on Monday afternoon, Odi and Eagles will face each other. Buru Sports and Victory from Group 1 will meet tonight at 9:00 PM in the tournament.
