Maldives' U-20 National Team Captain Mohamed Ilan Imran has said that even though Maldives has been knocked out of the SAFF U-20 Championship, it is not the end and that it is only the beginning.

The Maldivian team's draw against Nepal earlier this evening sees them exit the championship. Maldives has ended the competition after winning 2 points in three matches.

During the post game interview with PSM, Ilan expressed praise for the hard work from the team players and for the encouragement from the supporters.

He stated that Maldives went onto the pitch to play the championship after receiving proper training in such a short time span. Even though there is sadness in having to leave the championship, Ilan also stated that this is an important step for the future.

"This is not the end, God willing, this is just the beginning. We will work hard and compete in this year's and next year's tournaments," as per the Maziya forward.

While gesturing to the excitement exhibited by supporters in all three games, Ilan went on to say that the stadium was packed with supporters and the support itself was deeply satisfying.

He noted that the team has improved quite a bit compared to the first match. The hopeful player said that it is not possible to win the SAFF Championship in one night.

"It is not possible to win the SAFF Championship in one night. This can only be done over time and with a clear conscience. This is a slow step-by-step process," said Ilan.
